Clare in Bloom Judging Day

Judging Day for Sudbury in Bloom took place on the afternoon of Thursday 24th July. Despite some threatening black clouds, the sun stayed out long enough for Committee members Jane Haisman and Suzanne Goldsmith to show two judges from Anglia in Bloom around the town. The tour lasted an hour and a half and included sites at the Sudbury Castle Country Park, the Nuttery, the Abbeyfield retirement home and several of the residential areas in the town. Committee member Suzanne Goldsmith says “Our entry into the Anglia in Bloom contest does not only focus on the floral displays around the town but also takes into account areas of conservation and sustainability. We are very lucky in Sudbury to have many beautiful areas to show the judges. Representatives from various projects were happy to meet the judges this year and showcase their work for which we are most grateful. Our team of volunteers who help to maintain the containers with floral displays throughout the year have also done a superb job to keep everything looking lovely.” After the tour, judges had a cup of tea in the Old School Community Centre where they met more local residents and business owners and viewed photos including the winter floral displays, the scarecrow competition and the vegetables grown by children at Sudbury Primary School. Sudbury won a Silver Award in 2008 but will not find out the results of this year's judging until mid September.
