family of Sgt Ernest John Allen, RAF, who was killed in Cyprus on July 17 1956, aged 28. He was one of 371 British servicemen killed in what was then called the ‘EOKA conflict’. This year sees the 50th anniversary of the ending of that four-year conflict, and the memorial to whose who did not come home will be unveiled in Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus on Remembrance Day — November 8.
